Compass directions are based on each property which means that if your neighbours home was built at the same time and has the same facing direction, they will not be able to do any renovations in the east either, and you will also be able to do so in your west of your property. If the renovation is un-avoidable, I would recommend placing a six rod metal wind chime in the outside of your home in the east while you are doing any renovations and make sure you remove it after any work is done.
